Pakistan downpour: 79 killed, 97 injured in rain-triggered accidents

At least 79 people have been killed and 97 others were injured in accidents triggered by torrential rains in Pakistan. The hardest-hit area was the northwestern tribal region where 22 people died and 33 were injured. In other places, heavy downpour blocked traffic, caused power outages and displaced thousands of people. Though the nationwide rain spell ended on Saturday night, Pakistan’s meteorological agency says torrential rains will last for another day in many places, slowing recovery operations.
