Pakistan’s parliament has passed legislation against honor killing, making a 25-year jail sentence mandatory even if the killers have been pardoned by other close relatives of the victims. Under previous laws, a close relative could murder a woman in the name of honor, then be pardoned by another close family member and walk free. Honor killing victims are usually women perceived to have violated conservative values.
