Palestinians marked the 40th anniversary of Land Day on Wednesday with a rally near the Erez Crossing into Israel, north of the Gaza strip. Hundreds of people joined the march, protesting against Jewish settlers in the West Bank. For Palestinians, Land Day marks March 30 1976, when the Israeli government announced plans to expropriate thousands of hectares of land for Jewish settlers around the Arab villages of Araba and Sakhnin. Six unarmed Israeli Arabs were killed in the confrontations with Israeli forces during the demonstrations 40 years ago.
