The panda known for lifting wartime spirits, black, white and furry, Ming left her birthplace in China’s southwest Sichuan Province and arrived in London as the first giant panda cub in 1937. She is remembered for bringing so much joy to Londoners, particularly children, during the dark days of World War II. Now, decades later, she is set to be memorialized with a statue in the city’s zoo.
