Pedophile case reveals legal loopholes of Malaysia child protection

A 28-year-old British pedophile, Richard Huckle, was sentenced to life in prison in June for 71 counts of horrific sexual abuse against 23 children and babies in Malaysia, but investigators believe the true number of victims was likely close to 200. The prosecutors described Huckle as Britain’s worst-ever pedophile. It’s a case that has exposed glaring weaknesses in Malaysia’s child protection laws, as well as public attitudes to child sexual abuse. Rian Maelzer reports from Kuala Lumpur.
