Philippines gets first Japan-funded patrol ship to beef up coast guard

A Japanese patrol ship was turned over to the Philippine coast guard Thursday in an official ceremony in Manila’s harbor. The 44-meter BRP Tubbataha is the first of 10, multi-role, response vessels to be delivered under an assistance project funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency. Philippine coast guard officials say this is a law enforcement vessel, not a warship.
