Piracy off West Africa: Steep rise in kidnappings in Gulf of Guinea

The International Maritime Bureau has warned that pirates are now targeting the Gulf of Guinea on the west coast of Africa. The agency says that while attacks off the Somali coast have dropped sharply, pirate attacks are now surging off the West African coastline—especially in Nigeria. CCTV’s Deji Badmus looks at why the threat of piracy has risen in the region and what authorities are doing to combat it.
