Plainclothesmen catch thieves in the act in S China

A gang of three pickpockets was recently caught red-handed in Guangzhou, south China’s Guangdong Province. Surveillance cameras installed on the streets of the city brought the trio to the police’s attention, which immediately dispatched plainclothesmen to apprehend them. But the petty thieves did not surrender easily, running away at the sight of the officers and triggering a foot chase which ended with two being rounded up and one escaping. Police are currently investigating the case, and the suspect at large is being tracked.

According to data published by China’s Supreme Court, 2015 saw 224,907 cases of larceny nationwide –an increase of 4 percent from a year earlier.
