Plane crashes after ‘unauthorized takeoff’ from Seattle Airport, no passengers aboard

An Alaska Airlines plane crashed after it was stolen from Seattle–Tacoma International Airport Friday night, US authorities said.

Alaska Airlines said there was an “unauthorized take-off” of an airplane and witnesses reported online that a jet was being chased by military planes near Sea-Tac International Airport in Washington state.

Ed Troyer, a spokesman for the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department, said a 29-year-old airline mechanic stole the plane, without revealing the man’s identity.
