PM Narendra Modi launches Digital India Initiative

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today launched the Digital India initiative in the national capital with an aim to create a digitally empowered society. The Digital India initiative has attracted Rs 4.5 lakh crore worth of investment and will provide employment to 18 lakh people “I would like to congratulate Minister of Communication and Information Technology Ravi Shankar Prasad and his entire team for using a comprehensive integrated approach to change India’s future through Digital India Programme,” Modi said. “It is responsibility of the government to ensure Internet reaches all. The poorest of the poor should be able to get it,” he added. Stressing on the need of m-Governance, Modi said that e-Governance will soon become m-Governance, the country must give importance to mobile governance. ” Even the small kids are attracted to mobile phones and understand digital power, ” he said. Speaking at the event, Ravi Shankar Prasad said, “Digital India Programme aims to empower all citizens, especially the poor and connected.” “Digital India will remain incomplete without Make In India, I will appeal businessmen to come and participate,” he said. Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani announced that RIL will invest 250,000 crore across digital India pillars. “I believe Digital India will be a huge success because of the adoption of technology by the youth of India,” he said. The Digital India programme aims to provide broadband highways, universal access to mobile connectivity, public internet access programme, e-governance: Reforming government through technology, eKranti – Electronic delivery of services, Information for all, Electronics manufacturing: Target net zero imports, IT for jobs and early harvest programmes.
