It was the stuff of nightmares when a man in Nantong, east China’s Jiangsu Province, got stuck in a tidal flat, submerged up to his chest and in danger of being buried, earlier this month. Police arriving at the scene after getting a call for help tried a number of methods to reach him, 50 meters offshore. To spread their weight and avoid sinking, they even lay down and tried rolling across the sand. They eventually dispatched an excavator and hauled the man to safety. Watch the video for highlights of the dramatic rescue.
