Poplars grows along the river near the Taklimakan Desert

The ancient variety of poplar, which appeared about 3 million years ago, poplars grows along the Tarim River on the edge of the Taklimakan Desert, known as the “sea of death”, in southern Xinjiang.

With golden leaves of various shapes, the poplars draw large crowds of tourists and photographers to the Tarim Basin of northwestern Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region every autumn.
