President Xi addresses UN summit on peacekeeping

Chinese President Xi Jinping detailed China’s peacekeeping efforts at a UN summit on Monday, saying China will join the new UN peacekeeping readiness system and has taken a lead in setting up a permanent peacekeeping police squad with 8,000 Chinese troops.

He says China will train 2,000 peacekeepers from other countries in the coming five years and carry out 10 de-mining assistance missions that will include training and equipment provisions.

Xi says China will also provide $100 million in free military aid to the African Union over the next five years to support building an African standby force and the African capacity for immediate response to crisis.
