Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Liu Zhenmin concluded a three-day visit to Myanmar Saturday after meeting with top officials and politicians of the country.
As a special envoy of the Chinese government, Liu Zhenmin met with Myanmar President U Thein Sein.
Liu expressed appreciation to Myanmar’s government, political parties and all sectors of the society for their efforts in the successful and smooth holding of the general election.
Liu stressed that in the new situation, China would like to work together with Myanmar in deepening exchanges at different levels and expanding economic, trade and cultural cooperation.
U Thein Sein said the current government will continue to work with the Chinese side in enhancing the two countries’ comprehensive strategic cooperation.
Liu also met with Aung San Suu Kyi, Chairperson of the National League for Democracy, and congratulated her party for winning the absolute majority of parliamentary seats.
In response, Aung San Suu Kyi said NLD and the new government would continue to adopt a friendly policy towards China.
