Chinese President Xi Jinping met with his Peruvian counterpart, President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski in Beijing on Tuesday, where the two sides agreed to upgrade bilateral relations. President Xi Jinping greeted Kuczynski with a welcoming ceremony at the Great Hall of the People before the two leaders sat down for talks. President Xi proposed closer communications between the two countries at all levels, and called for greater cooperation in agriculture, new energy and the green economy, as well as in traditional areas such as mining, energy and infrastructure. Kuczynski announced his plan to make China his first overseas destination within hours of winning his country’s presidential election in June.
