Probe Ordered Into 83 Land Allotment | Herald Case

Maharashtra government today ordered a probe into the Mumbai property owned by Associated Journals Ltd (AJL), which was allotted to build a library and a research centre in 1983. However, the construction at the property is still in progress after three decades. The government had allotted the prime Bandra land to AJL, the parent company of the now-defunct National Herald paper, in 1983. Sources said that over the years, the then Congress government gave several extensions to AJL to complete the construction, but in vain. The government has reportedly warned that the land would be taken back if the irregularities were proven.
