The United Nations Security Council has recommended former Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Guterres to head the international body for the next five years. The expected next UN chief expressed “gratitude and humility” during a press conference at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Lisbon on Thursday. He said he will “serve those most vulnerable”, referring to the victims of conflict, terrorism and injustice. He also appealed to all member states to support the UN’s current Secretary General Ban Ki-moon’s initiatives till the end of his tenure.
