Public sector trade union workers are going on strike in Belgium, and thousands are expected to take part in street protests against austerity measures. This comes just one week after a massive anti-austerity demonstration in central Brussels, which saw around 50,000 people hitting the streets. The rally was called to protest the social and economic policies of the center-right government, which trade unions say cut deep into the foundations of Belgium’s welfare state.
