Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in Tehran on Monday, his first trip to Iran in eight years. The focus is expected to be on the Syria crisis and energy cooperation. Putin met supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the country’s ultimate authority, who has backed Syrian President Bashar al-Assad since the crisis broke out in 2011.
