Pyongyang to set up new economic zone on border of China

The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea or DPRK on Thursday announced that it will set up the Kyongwon Economic Development Zone, a new zone in North Hamgyong Province.

In late September, Beijing offered the first passenger rail service to Hunchun, a Chinese border city adjacent to the DPRK’s new economic zone.

Chinese officials said they hoped the high-speed railway could help increase import-export business.
