Qu Yuan’s hometown commemorates ‘patriot poet’ during Dragon Boat Festival

The Dragon Boat Festival is being used to commemorate the death of Qu Yuan in his hometown of Zigui County in Hubei Province, where the celebrations are fitting of a legendary Chinese figure. Qu was minister of the State of Chu and one of China’s earliest known poets, who threw himself into the Miliuo River on the 5th day of the fifth month in the Chinese lunar calendar. People also would hang mugwort above their doors to repel pests and evil spirits. Take a look at how the descendants of Qu Yuan celebrate the festival.
