Animal welfare activists in northeast China’s Liaoning Province recently saved four slow lorises, one of the nation’s rarest species, and sent them to a nature reserve. After rescuing the rare animals from traffickers, the Shenyang Rescue Center for Birds of Prey sent the creatures to a nature reserve in south China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region last week . “Their numbers in China are even lower than that of giant pandas,” said Wang Weiyan, from the Shenyang rescue center. According to Wang, around 1,000 slow lorises currently exist in China. Authorities have declared the species as under state protection.
