Russia test-launched a short-range anti-ballistic missile from the Sary-Shagan testing ground in Kazakhstan on Tuesday.
According to Russia’s Defence Ministry, the test proved to be effective and hit the target in the set time.
The objective of the launch was to test the tactical and technical characteristics of the missile system that reportedly can neutralize a potential nuclear strike.
On Friday, President Vladimir Putin stated that Russia will have to respond to the US missile defence system in Europe.
The US set the first object of its global missile defence shield in Romania in May, saying that it will help to protect NATO allies from a possible nuclear threat from Iran.
