RAW: Russian vehicle passes test for planned North Pole drive

The Russian universal ‘Burlak’ vehicle and eight crew members of the Automobile Transarctic Expedition team staged their first test drive on the frozen Kara Sea, as shown by footage released on Tuesday.

‘Burlak’ proved its quality while overcoming deep snow, mud, mountain trails, and deep and icy waters of the Kara Sea.

The off-roader is a self-assembled vehicle fashioned out of a Soviet-era BTR-60 armoured personnel carrier.

The crew hope to drive to the North Pole in 2018.
