RAW: Russian warships fire cruise missiles at IS from Caspian Sea

Four Russian Navy warships – the “Dagestan,” “Sviyazhsk,” “Uglich” and “Great Ustyug” – launched a total of 26 cruise missiles at 11 different Islamic State (IS) positions in Syria from the Caspian Sea on Wednesday, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.

The missiles flew around 1,500 km (932 miles) before hitting their targets, with all targets being destroyed and no civilian infrastructure being struck, the ministry said.

The strikes required the cooperation of Iran and Iraq, as the missiles travelled through the airspace of both countries before reaching their intended targets in Syria.
