Rename Bangaluru Airport After Tipu Sultan : Girish Karnad

Under severe attack for his remarks that Bengaluru International airport should have been named after 18th century Mysore ruler Tipu Sultan rather than the city founder Kempegowda, Jnanpith awardee Girish Karnadtoday offered his apology. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said the government hasnothing to do with the remarks made by Karnad at a stategovernment-organised function to mark the birth anniversary of Tipu Sultan here yesterday. Uneasy calm prevailed in Madikeri and elsewhere in Kodagu district where a BJP enforced a bandh today, a day after being rocked by violence over celebrations of the birth centenary of 18th century Mysore ruler Tipu Sultan that claimed the life of a local VHP leader.
