Rio 2016: Ticket sales at 82 percent, about 1.1 million still unsold

The third full day of competition at the Rio Olympics is about to begin, but a spokesman for the Games says so far, only Friday’s opening ceremony has sold out. Demand for tickets is running at 82 percent, far below London four years ago, despite being about half the price. But the spokesman said that Brazil’s economy is in a recession, and attendance is five percent higher than organizers’ targets.
