Russia agrees to 48-hour Aleppo truce, UN awaits others

United Nations officials say Russia has agreed to a 48-hour “pause” in fighting in Aleppo to allow for aid delivery. However, the security guarantee also relies on the compliance of other parties on the ground. The UN has been pushing for a weekly 48-hour pause in the divided city, with major powers backing opposing sides in the five-year conflict.
