The presidents of Russia and Turkey are due to speak by phone later today in what’s being seen as the first concrete step towards repairing relations between their nations, which have been tense since the Turkish downing of a Russian jet on the Syrian border late last year. The call comes after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan sent a letter to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on Monday, expressing regret over an incident which left two Russian soldiers dead.
