Sales soar for children’s author after international prize

Cao Wenxuan has enjoyed soaring sales since becoming the first Chinese person to win the prestigious Hans Christian Andersen Prize for children’s books last week. Shanghai Book City set up a special display of Cao’s works – and the books flew off the shelves, with many selling out. Children’s book sales have grown rapidly in China over the past decade and now account for 40% of the overall book industry, with picture books particularly popular.
