The Supreme Court on Friday (January 29) stayed criminal proceedings against India ODI captain MS Dhoni in Andhra court over his pictures as lord Vishnu in a magazine cover, which includes summons issued by court in Andhra. The apex court has sought response of Andhra Pradesh police on Dhoni’s plea and is also seeking transfer of the case from Anantpur to Bengaluru. Earlier a non-bailable warrant issued against Dhoni in a case of hurting religious sentiments was withdrawn by a local court in Anantapur in Andhra Pradesh. The star cricketer got in troubled waters in 2013 for appearing in an advertisement on the cover of Business Today as Lord Vishnu holding a number of objects. The ad prompted social activist Jayakumar Hiremath to file a case to register a complaint against him, with a case being registered against him under section 295 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The court had earlier asked Dhoni to appear before it on February 25.
