Scientists find likely ancestor of mystery ‘Hobbit’

Scientists in Indonesia have found bone fragments and teeth dating back 700 thousand years in an ancient river bed on the Indonesian island of Flores. They appear to belong to “Flores Man”, a small extinct human species that has been nicknamed the “hobbit”. Scientists say the new fossils “strongly suggest” Flores Man evolved from large-bodied, large-brained members of the extinct human species Homo Erectus.
