Sections of the Turkish army declare coup and martial law

Sections of the Turkish army have officially declared a coup and martial law, saying they have “taken control of the country.” Istanbul’s main airport was closed and fighter jets were seen in the skies. Amid the ongoing military coup, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan used Apple’s FaceTime to phone into a Turkish television network. He said the coup would be overcome and called on his followers to take to the streets to defend his government.
