In 1931, the three northeastern provinces of China were occupied by Japan following the September 18 Incident, also known as the Mukden Incident. In order to expand its military presence in China, Japan exploited the vast natural resources of the region and forced millions of ordinary Chinese people into labor, with little consideration for their lives and wellbeing. CCTV’s Guan Yang visited one surviving miner’s family and has the story.
