Severe rainstorms affect southern China

In China, severe floods are affecting many parts of the country’s south. Several rivers have swollen to levels higher than those of 1998, a year in which thousands died and millions were displaced by floods. This current round of rain is expected to last till Saturday. Zhejiang, the northwestern part of Jiangxi and Chongqing have been experiencing heavy downpours, whilethe National Meteorological Center has forecast thunderstorms for southern China, including Jiangxi, Guangxi, and Shanghai. Authorities have been advising various departments to take safety and disaster prevention measures. Floods have disrupted traffic and damaged houses and farmland.
