The UNESCO World Heritage Committee has added the Shengnongjia Forestry District in Central China’s Hubei province to the list of World Heritage Sites. Shengnongjia lies in the west of southern China’s Hubei province and occupies just over 3-thousand 2-hundred square kilometers. More than 85 per cent of the area is covered by forest. The average altitude at Shengnongjia is around 1-thousand 7-hundred meters, earning it the nickname, the Roof of Central China.
