Singapore celebrated its Golden Jubilee on Sunday with the biggest-ever National Day Parade to commemorate the city state’s independence.
Under the theme ‘Onward Singapore’, celebrations began from the Padang – the same spot where the first ever parade was held in 1966. Sunday’s procession ended at the now iconic Marina Bay area.
Veterans from Singapore’s early armed forces joined soldiers, marching with columns of tanks and armored vehicles. Military jets flew overhead in formation.
Street shows and fireworks also lit up the town centre.
An estimated 201,000 people joined the celebrations.
Singapore’s President Tony Tan Keng Yam, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong together with foreign guests attended the parade.
