Six killed in Oaxaca of Mexico in clash between teachers and police

Six civilians were killed and 55 wounded during the third weekend of June in Mexico’s southwestern state of Oaxaca, as supporters of unionized teachers clashed with police.

Violence arose, when federal and state police tried to dislodge a blockage set up on a superhighway by the teachers belonging to the National Coordinator of Education Workers (CNTE).

The teachers had agreed to free the roads, but unidentified gunners shot at the police, which in effect worsened the situation.

CNTE organized the demonstration to protest against a federal reform to purify and upgrade the teaching body nationwide.
