A female bus driver was beaten by a passenger for five minutes after she tried to stop him from smoking onboard the vehicle in Suzhou city, Jiangsu Province on May 8. A surveillance camera on the bus shows the horrible incident as a male passenger fiercely hit the driver and dragged her out of the driver’s seat when the bus was waiting at a traffic light. At one point, the violent man even tried to drive the bus away to escape his pursuers. Thankfully the bus driver pulled the hand brake in a hurry and turned off the ignition to avoid a big accident.
Several passersby then helped detain the man, who has now been arrested. China’s first national smoking ban was launched in 2014, and has resulted in a big fall in smoking in public places. But some smokers still need to be more disciplined.
