In South Africa’s local elections, the governing African National Congress (ANC) has suffered a defeat in Pretoria, the country’s capital, to the opposition party Democratic Alliance (DA). The opposition’s support increased in all communities, particularly in the strongholds of the ANC. The DA won in Tshwane, the metropolitan area that includes Pretoria, where the ANC was previously in control.
