South China torrential rains result in flooding

The severe weather that has been troubling southern China for several days is continuing over the weekend. An unprecedented amount of torrential rain has triggered “dangerous and potentially life-threatening” conditions in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. In east Jiangxi province, 141 mm of rainfall pelted low-lying areas, which made roads and crop lands disappear, while stranding hundreds of local people. Rescuers have been using rubber boats to reach trapped residents and sending basic supplies such as water, food and candles to the households.
