South Korea has announced a new location for the controversial THAAD (Terminal High Altitude Area Defense) anti-missile defense system, following protests from local residents over potential health and environmental hazards. The government had initially planned to install the American system at a military base in Seongju county in North Gyeongsang Province, but changed the proposed site after protests by local residents. Authorities say the new site, which is a golf course 18 kilometers north of the base, is more suitable.
