Efforts to secure a lasting peace in the southern Philippines are taking a major step forward in Kuala Lumpur this weekend. Representatives of the Philippine government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front have announced the formation of a panel to implement a peace deal. The deal calls for creating an autonomous region, known as Bangsamoro, in mostly Muslim Mindanao. Hopes are high that the new government of President Rodrigo Duterte is breathing new life into the 17-year-old peace process. CCTV’s Rian Maelzer reports from Kuala Lumpur.
