Two weeks after the death of Helmut Schmidt, political leaders bid farewell to the former German chancellor on Monday in Hamburg.
Around 1,800 guests joined the state ceremony in honor of Schmidt who died at the age of 96, including leaders from Germany, and former senior officials from France and the United States.
Schmidt, who died on November 10 in Hamburg, led then-West Germany from 1974 to 1982.
He led his country as it rose to become a global economic powerhouse.
Known as “an old friend of the Chinese people,” Schmidt was also a pioneer and promoter of Sino-German relations.
