The Eighth Straits Forum has opened on Sunday in Xiamen, southeast China’s Fujian Province. Representatives from across the Taiwan Strait met to discuss economic and cultural exchanges. Top political advisor Yu Zhengsheng attended the opening ceremony and met with representatives of the Kuomintang and other parties from Taiwan. Yu, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, said the mainland is happy that so many young people from Taiwan want to study, work and start businesses or families on the mainland. This year’s forum has set up more events for youth exchange, and the opinion from young people may decide the future of cross-Strait relations.
