The Supreme Court (SC) will hear 1993 Mumbai blasts convict Yakub Memon’s mercy plea against execution of his death sentence on Monday. The Chief Justice of India (CJI) has constituted a special bench to hear the plea. Yakub is likely to be hanged on July 30. He is the younger brother of Tiger Memon, who along with Dawood Ibrahim masterminded the blasts and are absconding. Yakub has been in custody since 1994. The serial blasts in March 1993 had left 257 dead and over 700 injured. Yakub Memon is the only convict whose death sentence was upheld by the Supreme Court. President Pranab Mukherjee had rejected his mercy petition in May 2014.
