Survey shows 78 percent of Swiss voters reject basic income

A survey shows that 78 percent of Swiss voters don’t support proposals for an unconditional basic income. A referendum is underway to introduce a base monthly income of 2,500 Swiss francs, or 2,600 US dollars per adult, whether they are employed or not. A monthly payment of 625 Swiss francs per month for those under 18 has also been proposed. Opponents, including the government, said it would cost too much and weaken the economy.
