Synthetic ammonia leak hospitalizes at least 20 in Henan

A chemical leak from a fertilizer plant in central China’s Henan Province on Friday has left at least 20 people hospitalized, with five in critical condition. Residents nearby said they heard loud noises and saw smoke that had a pungent smell. The gas has been found to be synthetic ammonia, a major component in producing chemical fertilizer. A total of 300 kilograms of the gas was leaked, but authorities say the situation now is under control.
