Syria rebels broke three-week government siege in Aleppo

Syrian rebels say they have broken a three-week government siege in Aleppo city. The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights confirmed that rebels in southern Aleppo linked up with other insurgents but stressed that the rebels had failed to establish a secure corridor. The Syrian army also said it had repelled the assault and inflicted heavy casualties on the rebels. Government forces cut off Aleppo’s rebel-held areas in July, with some 250,000 people living under siege.
