After crisis talks in Damascus, the United Nations says it hopes the Syrian government will allow aid to be delivered to seven besieged areas. On Tuesday, UN Special Envoy Staffan de Mistura met for talks with Foreign Minister Walid al-Moualem. Following the meeting, he said the world body would “test” the government commitment to allow access. The news comes as government forces continue to advance rapidly in the north of the country with the aid of Russian air strikes. It also comes just days before an internationally agreed pause in fighting is due to take effect.
